“Hey, is this a gift I gave to you several years ago?” I shouted to my friend when I found a familiar gift under her Christmas tree.
“Yup… still new and tidy huh?” answered my friend proudly.
“Are you kidding? Why have you never opened it?!” I poked her. I thought she was nuts not opening my present for her for years!
“Easy my friend, don’t be frown like that…” my friend tickled me trying to make me smile.
“You didn’t like my present, did you?” I felt a little bit offended, why did she refuse to open it I wonder.
“Of course I love it, dear… I love it so much; the wrapper is soooo beautiful, it has been my favorite gift all this time!”
“So why don’t you open it?”
“I love the wrapper very much and I don’t want to torn that wonderful wrapper!” she grinned… “I am sure I will love what’s inside, may be I will open the gift next week ok?”
I think she is so silly… the wrapper is not as valuable as the gift inside! However don’t you think we often act like that in Christmas time? We enjoy Christmas songs, Christmas decorations, Christmas atmosphere, Christmas fair, and we even get so busy in Christmas ministry at church. May be we all know the Christmas stories and have watched the Christmas drama over and over again, we know all about Christmas but we never really open gift of Christmas!
So what is the gift of Christmas? God has given us forgiveness, freedom from guilty feelings and eternal life in heaven guarantee and you never open it? Are you kidding? We’ll never get the greater gift than Jesus!
If our greatest need is technology, God will send a scientist…
If our greatest need is money, God will send a financial consultant…
If our greatest need is entertainment, God will send an entertainer …
But our greatest need is forgiveness, so God sent us The Redeemer.

Cheers

Hi Trin, i like this post too! Christmas has always been very special for me. "Christmas isn't Christmas till it happens in your heart..."
Cheers!
Melody, many people do love Christmas wrapper and refuse to ponder what is inside... I read a very good book "the heart of Christmas" (it's on my sidebar) and got so many inspirations from the book
Amel, I think you should read that book as well... most recommended.. buy this book from amazon as christmas gift for your love ones..
Jo-N.. thank you.. hope you have blessed Christmas
Max, I have added you on the list.. thank you so much for remembering me about the tag! *hugs* Hm.. about the end of the story... it's an open ending... it's up to us whether we want to open the gift or not.. :-)
Dawn, yes it does... hope you find it bless your day..
MT, you get it! Christmas have to happen in our heart! Thank you for this lovely quote, I love it.
Trin! You are so right...the real meaning of CHristmas is not about all the usual stuff but about a little baby who was born to bring peace on earth...the Gift so to speak that has yet to be unwrapped! :)
Hi Trinity,
Nice message!
Indeed, our greatest need is forgiveness, so God sent us The Redeemer.
